Secret Yorkshire Privacy Policy

Last updated: Oct 29, 2026

Who we are

This policy explains how Secret Yorkshire collects, uses and protects your personal data when you enter a competition on our website or follow our social pages. We also run Secret Britain, and this policy covers both brands.

Secret Yorkshire is the data controller for the information you give us. You can contact us at:

• Email: hello@secretgb.co.uk

• Post: Secret Yorkshire, 3 St John's Square, Wakefield

We follow the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018.

What data we collect

We collect the details you enter on a competition form:

• Your name and email address

• Your telephone number, only if you choose to give it (this field is optional)

• Your answers to any competition question

• Whether you agreed to our competition terms and conditions, and whether you opted in to marketing emails

We may also collect basic technical data when you use our website, such as your IP address and browser type, through cookies (see below). We do not ask for payment details through competition forms.

How we use your data

We use your data to run the competition you entered: to record your entry, pick and contact winners, and arrange prizes. Our legal basis is performance of the competition contract between you and us.

If you tick the marketing box, we also use your email address to send you competitions, offers and deals. Our legal basis for this is your consent, which you can withdraw at any time.

If you tick the separate partner box on a competition form, we share your name and email address with that named partner so they can email you their offers. Our legal basis for this is your consent, which you can withdraw at any time.

We may keep limited records to meet legal obligations, handle complaints, or prove a competition was run fairly. Our legal basis is our legitimate interests and legal duties.

Who we share your data with

We only share your entry data with the specific competition partner whose prize you entered for. They receive it so they can run the draw, contact winners or deliver the prize. Each competition names its partner in its terms and conditions.

We do not sell your data. We use service providers to run our website and email, and they act only on our instructions.

If you tick the separate box to hear from a competition partner (for example, Aroma Holidays), we also share your name and email address with that partner so they can email you their offers and news. We never share your details for a partner's marketing unless you tick that box. Once shared, the partner is responsible for your data, and you can unsubscribe from their emails at any time.

We only share your data with a competition partner where it is needed for that competition. Partners are responsible for how they use your data once they hold it, so please read their own privacy policy.

Marketing emails

Entering a competition does not sign you up to marketing. We only email you offers if you tick the separate marketing box on the form.

If you opt in, we email you around once a week with Secret Yorkshire and Secret Britain competitions, offers and deals. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in every email, or by emailing hello@secretgb.co.uk. Unsubscribing does not affect any competition entry you have already made.

Keeping your data, security and your rights

How long we keep it. We delete competition entry details 6 months after the competition closes. We keep winner records for up to 12 months in case we need to show a competition was run fairly. We keep marketing email details until you unsubscribe, then delete everything except your email address, which we hold on a suppression list so we do not email you again by mistake. We may keep some records longer where the law requires it.

Security. We take reasonable steps to protect your data, including restricting access and using secure, reputable service providers.

Your rights. You can ask us to access, correct or delete your data, restrict or object to how we use it, or receive a copy of it. You can withdraw marketing consent at any time. To use any of these rights, email hello@secretgb.co.uk and we will reply within one month.

Cookies. Our website uses cookies for basic function and analytics. You can manage them through the cookie settings on our site or in your browser.

Complaints. If you are unhappy with how we handle your data, please contact us first. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113.

Changes. We may update this policy from time to time. The date at the top shows when it was last changed.
